Press Release - Amherst Board of Selectmen Vote to Appoint Jacob Fitzgerald As New Finance Director

At their meeting on Monday, October 6, 2025, the Amherst Board of Selectmen voted to appoint Jacob Fitzgerald as the Town’s new Finance Director, effective October 20, 2025. 

With over a decade of experience in public finance, auditing, and financial operations, Mr. Fitzgerald brings a strong record of fiscal leadership and collaborative budgeting to Amherst. He is currently serving as the Finance Director for the Town of Hollis, NH, where he oversees a broad range of financial management responsibilities, including accounting, operating and capital budgeting, debt administration, payroll, and financial reporting. He also manages the Town’s investment portfolio, which includes over $22 million.

Prior to his role in Hollis, Mr. Fitzgerald worked as a Governmental Audit Supervisor with Melanson CPAs. In that role, he led audits for more than 20 municipalities in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, internal controls, and governmental accounting standards.

Mr. Fitzgerald holds both a Master of Science in Accounting and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Management from the University of New Hampshire’s Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics, where he was consistently named to the Dean’s List during his undergraduate studies.

With a strong commitment to transparency, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency, Mr. Fitzgerald is expected to be a key partner in guiding Amherst’s financial strategies and supporting the town’s evolving community needs.
