Office of Community Development: Town Planner, Full-time

About the Role: As a Town Planner with the Office of Community Development, you'll play a crucial role in shaping the future of Amherst. From coordinating subdivision reviews to providing guidance on land use regulations, your work will directly impact the town's growth and development.

What You'll Do:

Coordinate and conduct subdivision and site plan reviews.

Review zoning and historic district applications.

Provide expert guidance on local land use ordinances.

Assist in updating ordinances, regulations, and the Master Plan.

Offer support to Planning Board, Zoning Board of Adjustment, and Historic District Commission.

Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Planning or related field.

Progressive experience in municipal, county, or state land use planning.

Extensive knowledge of land use planning principles, state, and local land use legislation.

Familiarity with zoning issues and procedures.

Or any equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Competitive salary range: Labor Grade 15, $36.59 to $42.90.

FINANCE DEPARTMENT- TOWN TREASURER

The Town of Amherst is seeking to appoint a part-time Treasurer. The Treasurer is a key component of the Town’s cash management program. This position involves gathering information necessary to determine cash needs, such as borrowing, timely depositing, disbursement, receipt, investing, and accountability of municipal funds. The Treasurer is also responsible for the maintenance of related records and reports, such as cash reconciliations and a written year-end report to be included in the annual Town Report. 

The Town has a detailed deposit policy and investment policy to help guide the Treasurer. There is also the State RSA 41:29 which outlines the duty of the Municipal Treasurer.

The desired applicant would have a background in accounting practices and financial reporting.  A familiarity with bookkeeping practices, banking procedures, and a working knowledge of financial software applications is beneficial. The ability to work well with people and a knowledge of basic computer skills is required. Amherst residence is not a requirement. Police Department- Communications Center

Full-time Dispatch Communications Specialist

The Town of Amherst Communications Center is seeking motivated, hardworking individual for the position of full-time emergency services dispatcher. The Amherst Communications Center serves as the dispatch center for the Town of Amherst Police, Fire Rescue, and DPW and also covers the Town of Mont Vernon for EMS calls. Interested applicants should possess strong communication skills, ability to work under pressure, and the ability to work nights, weekends, holidays and overtime.

The Amherst Communications Center offers:

  • Wage scale ranging from $25.13 - $29.46
  • Starting pay dependent on experience
  • Overnight shift differential
  • 4 - 10 hr. shifts with 3 days off
  • 8 week shift rotations within a 64 week cycle based on seniority/bid
  • 11 paid holidays
  • Extensive benefits package with insurance buyback options

Dept. of Public Works

Transfer Station Part-time

Amherst NH Department of Public Works is accepting applications for a part-time transfer station attendant. This is a 29.5 hour position. We are looking for someone who likes to interact with residents and willing to educate them about recycling and solid waste. The “Application for Employment Package” is available at the DPW office, 22 Dodge Road between 7:00 am and 3:00 pm Monday through Friday. Position is open until filled.
