Town Clerk's Office:
Assistant Clerk, Part-Time The Assistant Clerk must be a resident of the town and a registered voter in Amherst, NH. The following is a partial listing of work performed: Motor vehicle registrations and title applications and boat registrations• Issue dog licenses • Issue marriage licenses • Record and provide certified copies of vital records (birth, death & marriage) • Record and preserve public records of the Town • Accept voter registrations to be forwarded to Supervisors of the Checklist • Assists with Town, State and Federal elections. • Aids the public in performing genealogy searches • Responds to inquiries from the general public. The Assistant Clerk must attend certification classes at the DMV, Bureau of Vital Records, and Secretary of State. Knowledge of basic bookkeeping is also required. Assistant Director of Public Works, Full-Time Exempt The Town of Amherst, NH, seeks to hire an experienced professional for the position of Assistant Public Works Director. This is a highly responsible position managing all functions of the department. General Summary: This is a highly responsible position that performs administrative work and provides management assistance to the Public Works Director. This position is responsible for all divisions and functions of the Public Works Department in the absence of the Director. A full job description can be found HERE.
Requirements: Ability to work professionally with persons representing a diverse range of viewpoints and disciplines. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. Graduation from a college or university with study in civil engineering or related field; Valid NH CDL-B Driver’s License; Certified Wastewater Operator or ability to obtain licensure; NH Licensed professional engineer desired; LPA Certificate desired. Municipal public works or related engineering operations, with at least two years of supervisory and administrative experience OR any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
Compensation: This key role is a full-time salaried position, Labor Grade 18 with a salary range of $79,164 - $84,011, depending on qualifications. The Town of Amherst offers a comprehensive benefits package, including a 457(b) retirement plan with a 5.5% Town match along with excellent Health, dental and Town-provided Life/Disability insurance benefits.

Solid Waste Attendant, 29.5 hours/Week Amherst NH Department of Public Works is accepting applications to fill a 29.5 hour part-time position at our transfer station. We are looking for someone who likes to interact with residents and willing to educate them about recycling and solid waste. The “Application for Employment Package” is available at the DPW office, 22 Dodge Road between 7:00 am and 2:00 pm Monday through Friday. Position is open until filled, starting rate depends on qualifications (DOQ). Summer Seasonal Positions, 40 hours/Week The Amherst, NH DPW is accepting applications for 40-hour summer-seasonal employees. Employment for these positions generally begins in May and concludes at the end of summer. Duties include working with our crew, landscaping, brush trimming, painting, and buildings & road maintenance. Applicants must be 18 years of age and possess a valid NH driver’s License. Applicants must have a satisfactory driving record and criminal background history. Applicants must also enjoy working outdoors and be able to work safely and perform physical labor. Pay is between $14.00 and $16.72 depending on experience. We are flexible with time off for other obligations.
