Town Clerk's Office - Hours of Operation

Monday - Friday: 9:00am to 3:00pm 

Tuesday Evenings: 4:30pm to 6:00pm

2026 New State Fee's (Click link) TAKING EFFECT: 01/01/26

The NH DMV has increased the fees for motor vehicle transactions effective January 1, 2026 according to NH House Bill 2.  Registrations that are completed by December 31, 2025, will be charged the current fees but payments received on or after January 1ST will need to include the increases.  In an effort to avoid wrong payments we will be suspending the online system on December 26th and resuming on January 2nd.   During this period registrations can be processed in person at the office.  Renewals through March 31st may be processed prior to December 31st.  If you’re registering your December vehicle by MAIL, please make sure your check is in the mail by December 19th.  If we haven’t received your check by December 30th, you will get a phone call regarding the new fees.   

The Town Clerk’s office hours for December: 9AM-3PM Monday through Friday (regular hours) 4:30PM-6PM Tuesday night (regular hours) Christmas Week, December 22-24 Regular hours. 

Office closed December 25 and 26th. New Years week, December 29-31st. Regular hours.

  Closed New Years Day.  Open regular hours on Friday, January 2nd.

Duties of the Amherst Town Clerk:

 

The Town Clerk and Deputy Town Clerk are municipal agents for the State. They can process State vehicle registrations, renew vehicle licenses, process new plates and transfers, and process boat registrations.

  • The Town Clerk can provide dog licenses.
  • The Town Clerk can provide marriage licenses by appointments and other vital records.
  • Amherst citizens may register to vote and get absentee ballots at the Town Clerks office.  See also Supervisors of the Checklist (Voter ID Law).
  • All Amherst residents are required to fill out a census form. Forms may be obtained in the Town Clerk’s Office.
  • Records of the Town are available from the Town Clerk during regular business hours. These include Town history, minutes of meetings, checklists, and other public documents.  Please make an appointment.
