Town Clerk

Town Clerk's Office - Hours of Operation

Monday - Friday: 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
Tuesday Evenings: 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm

*The NH DMV will be Implementing “VISION,” the new driver license system in the month of February.  During this implementation, our connection to the State system for issuing plates and renewing plates and any other motor vehicle transactions will not be available.  Please avoid the dates of Friday, February 17 through Tuesday, February 21st as the DMV State wide will not be open to the public and the system will not be available to us as municipal agents for the state.   February 20th is Presidents Day which is a legal holiday and all federal, state and town offices are closed.  If everything goes well, on Wednesday, February 22nd, all operations will be back to normal.  We would encourage February registrants to renew before those dates indicated as February is a short month anyway.

Duties of the Amherst Town Clerk include the following:

The Town Clerk and Deputy Town Clerk are municipal agents for the State. They can process State vehicle registrations, renew vehicle licenses, process new plates and transfers, and process boat registrations.

  • The Town Clerk can provide dog licenses.
  • The Town Clerk can provide marriage licenses.
  • Amherst citizens may register to vote and get absentee ballots at the Town Clerks office. (Voter ID Law ) see also Supervisors of the Checklist.
  • All Amherst residents are required to fill out a census form. Forms may be obtained in the Town Clerk’s Office.
  • Records of the Town are available from the Town Clerk during regular business hours. These include Town history, minutes of meetings, checklists, and other public documents.
