Initiatives

  • Amherst Pedestrian/Bikeway
    A 2001 initiative to create two multimodal districts in town with district-wide enhanced bicycle and pedestrian facilities with a multi-use path to connect them. Currently being explored for federal Transportation Alternatives Program funding

  • Amherst Rail Trail
    A proposed shared-use path along the abandoned "Manchester and Milford Branch" rail line. This route is split into eight sections, each with varying states of completeness and access. On July 24th, 2020 Governor Sununu signed into law the NHDOT ten-year plan, which includes funding to rehabilitiate Section 3 of the Amherst Rail Trail.

  • Amherst Street Sidepath (currently under construction, expected completion Spring 2021)
    Utilizing Systematic Safety Principles to Provide Multimodal Transportation Between the Amherst Village and the town of Milford

  • Atherton Trail (Completed 2020)
    Working with the Amherst Conservation Commission to redevelop a trail system in the Purtell Easement, North of Atherton Common

  • Souhegan/AMS School Campus Sidepath (2021 Warrant Article 32)
    A proposed multimodal roadside safety and transportation improvement in the area of Souhegan High School and Amherst Middle School

  • Eversource Trail
    A proposed, multi-use trail underneith the Scobie Pond–Amherst Transmission Line between Ponemah Bog and Horse Hill Nature Preserve (Merrimack)

  • Old Manchester Road Advisory Shoulders
    A proposed, cost-netural multimodal improvement to a low-volume neighborhood street

  • SB707
    A 2020 State Senate proposal for NH Department of Transportation to build a 10-foot wide sidepath along NH 122 from NH 101 to Hollis-Brookline High School

  • Souhegan Valley Rail Trail
    A 16+ mile regional initiative to build a rail trail from East Nashua to Wilton Center, connecting 6 towns in the region. This effort is coordinated by the Friends of the Souhegan Valley Rail Trail in affiliation with the Nashua Regional Planning Commission.
