The Great Water Adventure
Saturdays, May 10th and May 17th 10am –2pm

Join us for this exciting two-week program where you’ll learn about New Hampshire’s wet environments and go fishing. Program is based on a curriculum written by NH Fish and Game. Bring your lunch and be ready to have a great water adventure. (We ask that individuals who wish to attend Week 2 also attend Week 1. Thank you for your cooperation). $5 per person/ per session.
Week 1: Saturday, May 10th 10am –2pm
Come on a field trip to discover the aquatic life to be found in ponds, vernal pools, streams and wetlands. This is an indoor and outdoor session, looking at the creatures and their habitats.
Have you always been interested in the sport of fishing, but haven’t known where to begin? The Let’s Go Fishing Program is offering you the chance you’ve been looking for. Join us as we explore the basic skills and equipment you need and resources available to you on your journey to becoming an angler. All equipment and materials are provided.
Week 2: Saturday, May 17th 10am-2pm
You’ve learned the basics, now it’s time to put your new skills to the test. Spend the morning refreshing your casting skills and then head out to the local pond to do some fishing! All equipment and materials are provided.

Hartshorn Open House
Sunday, May 18th 12-4PM

Come meet the Hartshorn teachers and find out what we are planning for this summer and beyond. You and your family can enjoy mini program samplers and crafts (some crafts may have a modest materials fee). Entry to this event is free of charge.

School Vacation Day Programs- Leave No Child Inside
Memorial Day: Monday, May 26th

Are you wondering what your children will do on their school vacation days?
Send them to the PMEC where they’ll spend the day learning about and enjoying nature!
Content topics vary from day to day depending on weather. Enjoy indoor & outdoor activities such as Hiking, Fishing, Animal Tracking, Nature Crafts, Songs, Stories, and Games! Advanced registration required. School Vacation Day Registration forms can be found HERE.

The Peabody Mill Environmental Center, located at the end of Brook Road in Amherst, New Hampshire is an environmental and science education center that abuts almost 600 acres of Joe English conservation land. The mission of PMEC is to foster an awareness, understanding and appreciation of the natural world, by offering environmental, conservation, and science programs to all ages. PMEC strives to foster diligent stewardship of our environment so that future generations may inherit and continue to be inspired by the wonders of a protected and natural world.

The Many Uses of Peabody Mill Environmental Center Include the Following

  • Summer Day Programs
  • Classroom nature programs
  • After school programs
  • School vacation programs with a nature education theme
  • Teacher workshops-elementary science
  • Educational workshops for homeowners, foresters
  • Science and nature weekend programs geared for families
  • Resource for science/nature educational materials-open at scheduled times
  • Nature museum open regularly on weekends
  • Snowshoe rental program
  • Provider of resources and programs that can be taken into area schools
  • Use by groups for educational purposes ie. seniors, art classes
  • Limited use for small meetings for supporting organizations
  • Assistance with scout troop badges
  • Informational classes for homeowners
  • Note that PMEC is not available for adult social functions
