Building Permits Fees

Building Permits and Inspections are required in the Town of Amherst. There is a seven (7) day posting period before the permits are issued and work can begin. The applications and permits are obtained in the Amherst Zoning Office and carry the following fee schedule.

Certificate of Occupancy	$27.00
Commercial & Industrial Administration Fee:	$107.00 plus
Plumbing, Electrical, Gas Piping, Remodeling (Minor), Area or Remodeling (Major)	$38.00 plus $0.239 per sq. ft.
Permit Renewals	1/2 of original permit fee
Signs	$53.00 (Res.) $107.00 (Com.) plus
1-15 Square Feet: 16-30 Square Feet: Over 31 Square Feet:	$32.00 $53.00 $75.00
Driveway	$50.00 + $400.00 bond
Swimming Pools	$53.00 (Res.) $107.00 (Com.) plus
Residential Commercial Above Ground In-ground	$53.00 $107.00 $64.00 $91.00
Residential Administration Fee:	$53.00 plus
Plumbing, Electrical, Gas Piping, Remodeling (Minor) Living Space or Remodeling (Major) Garages / Decks Fences (HDC only)	$38.00.00 plus $0.27 per s.f. plus $0.11 per s.f. plus $26.00
Septic Systems	All Systems $153.00
Historic District Commission Application	$53.00 + $6.00 per Abutter
Penalty for beginning construction without a permit	150% of permit fee
Any Refunds	Total Fee Less Minimum of 10%
