Celebrating Our Founding Fathers

Design Chosen for Fourth of July Pins

Winning 2008 Pin Design

The Fourth of July Committee, for the fourth year in a row, will be selling a limited number of specially designed pins this year. The 2008 winning design was drawn by Brooke Carlson, an Amherst Middle School student.

Marilyn Barry, art teacher at the Amherst Middle School, coordinated the pin contest at the school. From the many designs submitted, the Fourth of July Committee chose the winner based on theme appropriateness and clarity of design. The theme this year, Celebrating Our Founding Fathers, was a difficult one that the entrants handled well. Every student who submitted a design received a gift certificate to Jake’s Ice Cream.

Brooke Carlson, the winning artist, will ride in the parade and be presented with a cash prize during the reviewing stand ceremony.

The pins will be on sale at Souhegan High School on the night of July 3 near the concession stand and will be sold at the Information Committee Tent on the village green on the 4th. Anyone buying a pin will be helping to defray the costs of the July 4th celebration.
