Celebrating Our Founding Fathers

Join the Parade

Should the organizations you belong to be represented in the Fourth of July parade? Certainly! Anyone interested in joining the parade should call Nancy Head, 673-1389 or e-mail her at . Then read the information for participants.

Although a float is the most impressive way to show the importance of the work that your group does, it is not the only way. A small group of members might march with a sign, perhaps wearing something unusual that identifies their organization. One year a few American Association of University Women members put a sign on the door of a red Volkswagon convertible bug decorated with flags and streamers and either rode in the car or marched beside it (see photo below). If a small group of people is not available—one or two members could very effectively represent the organization. A club might have someone pushing a garden cart decorated for the occasion or some children demonstrating one of its activities.

It is not necessary that your organization’s entry be elaborate. Something simple entailing a minimum number of people can be very effective. So, let the creative juices bubble, and join the festivities! Make sure that your organization, and the work that it does, is recognized!
