Scott Fields and Souhegan Canoe Port

The Scott fields and the adjoining Sherburne land straddle the Souhegan river near the high school, where the Boston Post road crosses the river. The Scott fields were purchased in 1989 as the Scott family retired from farming the land. A New Hampshire Land Conservation Investment Program (LCIP) grant was used to help pay for the property. Use of the land is regulated by the LCIP agreement for use in agriculture and passive recreation only. The adjoining lot was a gift from Max Sherburne to the Amherst Conservation Commission in 1975, after he sold his timber lot (where the Middle School and Souhegan High are now located) to the town.

A canoe port and parking lot have been created to allow access to the river here. There is also a nice spot on this property below the canoe port where many canoes will stop for a rest or lunch.
