What is a Master Plan and how is it created?
The Amherst Master Plan, as directed by
state regulations,
is a document that describes the best and most appropriate future development within the
town of Amherst. It is created by interested citizens, with oversight by the Planning Board. Amherst has hired a team of consultants with
expertise in a number of areas to assemble and write the document, based on citizen discussion and input.
What is the Steering Committee and who are the members?
The Amherst Master Plan Steering Committee consists of members of the planning board and interested citizens.
The Steering Committee will guide the collection of information and the creation of the new master plan that will be
completed by the end of the year. Steering Committee members are listed
on this website.
How can I contribute?
You can attend any of the Amherst Master Plan meetings, provide written or other input, or help organize the collection of data and discussions
on the future of Amherst. Sign up on the
town website.
When and where are meetings?
There is a Steering Committee meeting the second Wednesday of every month in the town hall.
A number of other meetings are planned and will be listed on this web site and in the newspapers as soon they are scheduled.
Must I attend all the meetings?
No, unless you are member of the steering committee with specific responsibilities, you need only attend meetings that interest you and that you can attend.
Can I provide input without attending meetings?
Yes. Written and other input will be accepted on the
Amherst Master Plan discussion site.
Documents and letters may also be addressed to Charlie Tiedemann in the
zoning office
at the town hall to be forwarded to the steering committee.
Will any of the meetings be broadcast on public access Channel 20?
Yes, some meeting broadcasts and other master plan programming is planned for Channel 20.
