The Amherst Master Plan will be composed of nine elements:
Community Vision & Goals,
Population & Housing,
Economic Development,
Natural Resources & Conservation,
Recreation,
Cultural & Historic Resources,
Public Services & Facilities,
Transportation & Circulation,
Land Use,
Implementation,
These elements will form the major chapters of the final Master Plan and they will be the subjects of the meetings, discussions, and other Master Plan events.
Our goals will identify Amherst's overall objectives for future growth and development. What patterns of development will be consistant with our
new Vision and Goals Element.
The population of Amherst in 2004 was 11,566 people which placed us 26th among New Hampshire's incorporated towns and cities.
Growth continues. How should Amherst plan for future growth in population and the need for additional housing?

What policies and strategies are needed to support the expansion or stabilization of Amherst's economic base?

Which aquifers, soils, forests, meadows, rivers, ponds, lakes, and the creatures that inhabit them do we protect?
What sorts of conservation land, greenways, and trails do we need?

What recreations services and facilities are needed?
What sorts of recreation are important in Amherst? What facilities, policies, and strategies are needed to provide recreation
for all Amherst citizens?

What cultural and historic resources exist in Amherst? What policies and strategies ar needed for their protection and management?
Join the work on the
new Cultural and Historic Resources Element.
What buildings, playing fields, and community centers are important? How do we plan for what we need?

new Public Services & Facilities Element.
How should we plan for the road, sidewalks, bicycle paths, and, yes, parking lots, that we need?
Are there changes in our transportation networks that we need to plan for?

Are our current zoning laws what we will need in the future? What changes are needed in our land use and the zoning laws that govern land use in Amherst?

new Land Use Element.
When vision is prepared adn the emlement are completed, what are the specific municipal actions necessary to make it all happen?
